Gavin was a city council candidate in Edinburgh in 2007 and moved to Musselburgh in 2019.

He is Treasurer of the Musselburgh and Inveresk Community Council, an elder in the Church of Scotland and sits on the Board of Trustees of the Scottish Bridge Union.  With a special interest in the arts, Gavin performs regularly as part of the Scottish Chamber Orchestra Choir.  He works in the financial services sector as an internal auditor.
