Published in today's East Lothian Courier, Scottish Conservative & Unionist Candidate Rachael Hamilton, outlines that the SNP are fast becoming an embarrassment to Scotland.
"I have been far from impressed with the SNP's behaviour in Westminster of late, particularly over their posturing on English Sunday Trading laws. As a local hotel owner, open seven days a week, I know the importance of Sunday trading not only for our customers but for our business too.
"The Chancellor, George Osborne promised in the budget earlier in the year that councils and mayors would get the power to set Sunday trading laws in their area.
"Larger shops in England and Wales can currently only open for six hours every Sunday.
"But the SNP chose to block these powers by threatening to vote against them, meaning the UK Government was forced to park the rule changes.
"What makes this even more absurd is that in East Lothian, and the rest of Scotland, there are no restrictions on Sunday opening times, so the move would have merely allowed English councils to bring the law into line with Scotland.
"Unfortunately, we have seen this type of behaviour time and time again from the SNP, on English votes for English laws and now on English Sunday trading hours.
"It is clear the number one priority for the nationalists isn't to stand up for Scotland as they promised, but to be as difficult as possible in an attempt to disrupt Scotland's place in the United Kingdom.
"The SNP are fast becoming an embarrassment to Scotland."
