The Scottish Conservatives have staged a day of action, backing Faslane’s future and standing-up for strong UK defence.
It follows a vote by Scottish Labour to oppose the renewal of Britain's Trident submarines.
To highlight the importance of the deterrent - and the thousands of jobs which depend upon it - Jackson Carlaw, deputy leader of the Scottish Conservatives and west of Scotland MSP was joined by activists in Helensburgh.
The group met with local people who rely heavily on Trident for their jobs and livelihoods.
There are currently 6,500 military and civilian jobs at Faslane and this figure will increase to over 8,000 by 2022.
Scottish Conservative deputy leader and west of Scotland MSP Jackson Carlaw said:
“Many of the people we’ve spoken to this morning understand the need for Trident as an integral part of the UK’s defence capability.
“However, they’re also deeply concerned at the potential impact for both the local community and the wider west of Scotland if the thousands of jobs dependent upon Trident were lost.
“Labour has lost the plot and can no longer be relied upon to be clear on something as fundamentally important as Britain’s defences
“Only the Scottish Conservatives can be trusted with the defence of the UK and indeed, Scotland remaining part of the UK.”
