Commenting on reports in the media that rural schools in East Lothian could be closed, Deputy Council Leader Cllr Michael Veitch said:
“This is a thoroughly mischievous suggestion. The new Administration’s council plan, adopted only last year, states clearly that rural schools will be protected. As well as providing excellent schooling, these facilities are important community hubs in many of our smaller villages. The Administration are absolutely not advocating the closure of rural schools, and whoever has sought to spread this rumour should be thoroughly ashamed of themselves.”
