Depute Leader of East Lothian Council, Cllr Michael Veitch, has welcomed the Cabinet’s endorsement of new draft planning guidance for wind farms of over 12 Megawatts. Cllr Veitch said:
“The Administration’s Council Plan, adopted last year, committed us to the stricter regulation of wind turbines. I’m therefore delighted that we have been able to approve new draft guidance which classifies East Lothian as an ‘Area of Significant Protection’. This would mean a presumption against larger wind farms county wide.
“I specifically welcome the conclusion that there is no further capacity for wind farms of this size in
the Monynut area of the Lammemuirs, in light of the recent approval by the Scottish Government of
the Wester Dod/Aikengall II wind farm. This essentially means that there would be a presumption
against larger wind farms in every square metre of East Lothian.”
