Miles Briggs selected to fight East Lothian Coast and Lammermuirs constituency
Miles Briggs has been selected as the Scottish Conservative and Unionist candidate for East Lothian Coast and Lammermuirs in next year’s Holyrood elections.
Following his selection at a meeting of the local party’s members on Friday evening Miles Briggs said:
"I’m honoured to be selected by local members to be the Scottish Conservative & Unionist candidate for East Lothian Coast and Lammermuirs.
"Serving the people of Lothian as an MSP over the last 9 years has been the greatest honour of my career.
"Following changes by the Boundary Commission, East Lothian is moving into the Lothian Region at the next Scottish Parliament elections in 2026.
"At the last Scottish Parliament election, it was only thanks to pro-UK voters lending their votes to the Scottish Conservative & Unionist party that stopped the SNP winning a majority.
"Communities across East Lothian face many critical challenges from the increased pressures which expanding communities bring to local schools and GP surgeries and the wider local transport infrastructure.
"I look forward to campaigning across the constituency in the coming weeks and months and working to win in 2026."
Local Association chairman Anthony Stodart said:
“We are delighted to have been able to select Miles Briggs as the Conservative candidate for the newly formed East Lothian Coast & Lammermuirs constituency, which now forms part of the Lothian Region, which Miles already represents.
With his experience on the Shadow front bench in Holyrood, he is well placed to remind voters of the SNP’s abject failure to manage Scotland’s Education, Health, Policing, Agriculture and Transport affairs over the last 18 years. We look forward to fighting a positive campaign focused on the majority of East Lothian’s constituents' priorities.
Craig Hoy MSP said:
“It’s been a real honour to serve East Lothian in my capacity as a South Scotland MSP. As East Lothian moves into the Lothians region at the next Holyrood election, it's fantastic to see my hardworking colleague Miles Briggs MSP selected to stand up for common sense policies for the local community. Miles is a great pick for East Lothian Coast and Lammermuirs."
