Commenting on the future of direct rail services between Dunbar and London Kings Cross, Councillor Michael Veitch said:
“I welcome the fact that the documentation for the new East Coast rail franchise stipulates that there be at least three East Coast services stopping at Dunbar in each direction on weekdays. Some of these must also serve London.
“East Lothian Council’s submission to the East Coast consultation highlighted the comparative lack of direct services between Dunbar and London, and suggested at least one additional direct service each way on weekdays, ideally a mid morning departure in each direction. This would be in addition to the existing provision.
“The next step must be to meet with whoever wins the East Coast tender at the earliest possible opportunity and to make the case for these enhancements. With Dunbar station due to transfer from East Coast to ScotRail, it is doubly important that we make the strong case for the retention and improvement of these important services.”
