Commenting on the publication of the results of the Scottish Court Service consultation, which continues to propose the closure of Haddington Sheriff Court (with a suggested date of January 2015), Deputy Leader of East Lothian Council, Cllr Michael Veitch, said:
“It is regrettable in the extreme that the Scottish Courts Service has dismissed the many responses to their consultation making the case for the retention of the court here in Haddington, and are still proposing that it be closed.
“The closure of the court would be a hammer-blow to East Lothian as a whole and would represent a wholly unacceptable downgrade of the county’s civic amenities.
“The final decision will rest with the Scottish Parliament, and I sincerely hope that the ill thought out proposal to close East Lothian’s Court will be over-turned.”
