Following today's decision in principle by City of Edinburgh Council to extend the tram line to Newhaven, Councillor Michael Veitch calls on the East Lothian SNPs to condemn their colleagues decision.
Commenting on the decision to extend the trams, Cllr. Veitch said:
"Cllr Currie has previously enjoyed grand - standing on his opposition to the extremely unlikely possibility of the trams ever being extended to Musselburgh
"However we now learn that his party failed to object to the principle of extending the tram within Edinburgh. Only the Conservatives opposed it.
"The sorry saga surrounding the Edinburgh trams has been an unmitigated disaster. It is deeply worrying that City of Edinburgh Council are seriously considering extending it further which would surely be throwing good money after bad.
"I would also be worried about the negative impact of any extension of the trams upon Lothian Buses, who provide an excellent service in East Lothian.
"I very much hope that the SNP in East Lothian will condemn their colleagues in Edinburgh for failing to vigorously oppose this ridiculous proposal."
