Scottish Conservative & Unionist candidate, Rachael Hamilton, highlights that East Lothian residents are suffering from the lack of superfast broadband and warns that poor internet connections are stunting growth of businesses in the region.
Rachael's concerns were raised in a report by the East Lothian Courier:
"New figures show that nearly half of residents in East Lothian do not have access to superfast broadband, say the Scottish Conservatives.
Just 57 per cent of premises in the county have access to superfast broadband, despite a pledge from the Scottish Government for 95 per cent of homes and businesses to have superfast broadband in two years' time.
The figures compare poorly to nearby Midlothian (66 per cent) and 88 per cent in Edinburgh.
Rachael Hamilton, the Scottish Conservatives' Holyrood candidate for East Lothian, said: "With barely half of premises in East Lothian connected to superfast broadband the Scottish Government has a big job on its hands to meet the 95 per cent target. It is disappointing to learn that only Scotland's islands and remote Highland communities have a poorer connection to the superfast broadband grid than East Lothian.
"Slow internet speeds are stunting the growth of businesses in the region and causing serious frustration for people at home.""
