Commenting on the paper approved at today’s meeting of East Lothian Council regarding revisions to the Capital Plan, Councillor Michael Veitch (Dunbar & East Linton) said:
“The Administration budget passed in February made a firm financial contribution towards the cost of a station at East Linton. We have been working hard to prepare a bid to the Scottish Government’s station investment fund in an effort to secure funding for the project. The opportunity to finally secure a station at East Linton must be seized with both hands therefore I strongly support today’s proposal that our contribution be increased.
“Ultimately this project will only succeed if the Scottish Government support it. East Lothian Council have done our bit in terms of chairing the local rail steering group, part commissioning the report making the case for a local rail service between Edinburgh and Berwick, and now preparing to finance a bid to the Government’s station fund. Now is the time for the Scottish Government to step up to the plate and get this long awaited project signed off.”
