Commenting on reports that Dunbar station could be transferred from the East Coast franchise to the ScotRail franchise, Dunbar Councillor Michael Veitch said:
“There have been rumours for some time that Dunbar could be transferred to ScotRail, and the East Coast tender appear to confirm this.
“Dunbar station has been very well served by East Coast who do an excellent job running the station, and have set the bar extremely high for any future operator. If the station is transferred to ScotRail, it is essential that there be no downgrading of the existing facilities such as the manned ticket office, and that long distance high speed services continue to call at Dunbar.
“The main advantage of a transfer to ScotRail would be the possibility of the ludicrously high car park charges being lifted so as to bring Dunbar into line with other stations in the county. I look forward to discussing these issues with the new operators of both the ScotRail and East Coast franchises in due course.”
