Writing in today's East Lothian Courier, Association Chairman, Tim Jackson, continues to reinforce tax spending facts:
"Peter Swain's claim of November 5 that we're subsidising UK projects is untrue, as is his claim that my taxation figures are capable of more than one "interpretation".
"My figures are official Scottish Government figures, which it uses all the time. It is therefore not about "interpretation" but the facts!
"He complains about Scottish taxes helping to pay for the HS2 rail link.
"Is he not aware that the Scottish Government has recognised that journey times to London will be reduced and therefore has accepted two per cent of the current expenditure, based on its economic assessment of the 'economic benefit' to Scotland?
"Indeed, only this week, Keith Brown, Scottish Government Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, said that Scottish business and industry could receive a huge boost from HS2, with £10 billion worth of contracts available when work starts in 2017, stating: "I want to see our business and workforce realise the full benefits that HS2 can bring to Scotland".
"As for Mr Swain's claim that Scottish taxes will pay for the London Crossrail link, again I am surprised he is unaware that, since we in Scotland do not directly benefit, the Crossrail expenditure results in a Barnett Formula 'consequential' with Scotland benefitting to the tune of £500 million.
"Mr Swain can 'interpret' the above as he wishes but he will find it difficult as the facts speak for themselves."
