East Lothian Council’s Transport Spokesman, Cllr Michael Veitch, has today written to the Scottish Government Transport Minister, Keith Brown MSP, asking whether the Scottish Government has revised its thoughts on dualling the A1 between Innerwick and Berwick, following reports that the UK Government are set to dual the road south of Berwick. The text of Cllr Veitch’s letter is copied below.

Dear Mr Brown
You may recall that I wrote to you in August and September 2012 asking what plans the Scottish Government had to improve the A1 south of Innerwick. You indicated at that time (Letter dated 23 October 2012) that the Scottish Government “have no plans for dualling, including a more limited dualling between Innerwick junction and Dunglass”.
As you will be aware, it has recently been reported that the UK Government are set to approve an upgrade of the A1 between Newcastle and Berwick, removing the remaining single-carriageway sections.
Clearly such a development would significantly strengthen the case for dualling the remaining sections of the road in Scotland, and I would therefore be very grateful for an update on the Scottish Government’s plans for dualling the A1 north of the border.
Yours sincerely
